A lot of businesses would agree that Aadhar verification has made KYC procedures terrifically simpler.
However, with this increased simplicity comes the ever-changing functionalities and regulations.
For instance, UIDAI issued the new aadhar rules under Aadhaar (Authentication and Offline Verification) Regulations, 2021. One of the key additions to the existing rules was the process for Aadhaar Paperless Offline e-KYC (oKYC). Unlike e-KYC, oKYC enables Aadhar number verification without interacting with the UIDAI infrastructure.
Now, business had two ways of going about Aadhar verification:
- OKYC: wherein you can validate the registered mobile number alongside the 12-digit Aadhaar number.
- Aadhar verification OCR: wherein businesses can verify the end user using the Aadhaar card Image.
In this blog, we will learn all about Aadhar verification OCR, why it is important for business and how Cashfree Payments enables it through APIs.

For verifying the end user using Aadhaar card Image merchant needs to follow this process:
- Collect Front and Back of Aadhaar Card Image of the end user on their platform.
- Pass both images in our api request.
- We reject the images as invalid if the image is fraud/ tampered using text detection checks.
- If Aadhaar is valid in the API response we will provide the details extracted from the image.
