Behind every secure transaction and seamless payment experience are diverse perspectives and inclusive decision-making at play. This is especially true in a fast-moving, high-stakes industry like fintech, where technology may be the driving force, but it is people who implement it to solve real-world problems every day.
Every innovation at Cashfree Payments is shaped by a distinct set of voices, and the women across our teams bring in their nuanced viewpoints to the picture. Their skills and leadership help drive solutions that are impactful, inclusive, and future-ready.
This Women’s Day, we celebrate our women at Cashfree Payments who are not just thriving in fintech but shaping its future through ownership, resilience, and building high-impact fintech products.
Building from Ground Up
When Deepali Butalia, our Associate Director of Cross Border Payments, first joined Cashfree Payments, she was confident in managing cross-border inward remittances—something she had done before. But six months in, she was handed a new challenge: PG for Imports, Cashfree Payments’ outward remittance product. This was an entirely different vertical, and she initially hesitated. As someone highly numbers-driven, she was unsure whether she could replicate her previous success as it was a new domain for her.
With the guidance and encouragement from the leadership team, I took up this role, and it was definitely a good decision. Stepping out of my comfort zone to spearhead a zero-to-one journey gave me a completely new learning experience, Deepali remarks.
What followed was an intense period of learning, as she built a product from the ground up rather than refining an existing one.
Every step, from cross-team collaboration to sales calls, was a learning experience. Today, I’m proud to be one of the spokespersons for us in this space, she adds.
Deepali’s journey is a reminder that taking risks often means learning things you never expected to—and that’s exactly what drives growth.
Driving Impact through Ownership
Building for scale in fintech means making decisions that balance innovation, efficiency, and a seamless user experience.
That’s been the case for Renu Bisht, our Mobile Engineer 3, who joined Cashfree Payments in 2021 and has since grown into a key contributor, actively leading projects and driving innovation in frontend development.
This place gave me the freedom to take ownership and work with cross-functional teams. The leadership trusts engineers to make decisions, and the team spirit is incredible. I evolved from being an Android developer to leading impactful projects. The culture fosters learning, helping me sharpen both my technical and leadership skills, shares Renu.
According to her, her most impactful project to have worked on is when the mobile app had just launched and the team faced a growing demand for an iOS version. Instead of maintaining separate apps for Android and iOS, the team made a strategic choice to rebuild the Android app using React Native, enabling a unified experience across platforms. This decision significantly reduced development overhead while improving performance and scalability.
Delivering the new app in six months was a major milestone. It enhanced performance, improved UX, and streamlined development. Along the way, I also got to learn Swift and Spring Boot while taking full ownership—writing DRCs, presenting solutions, and collaborating with PMs, designers, and engineers, she adds.
Bridging Law and Innovation in Fintech
As our Associate in Regulatory Compliance, Avantika Jain’s role at Cashfree Payments goes beyond traditional legal responsibilities as she works at the intersection of compliance and innovation, ensuring that business growth scales harmoneously with legal frameworks
Being part of driving a key compliance initiative from scratch was a defining experience. Bringing teams together and ensuring adoption made a real impact by helping us track compliance seamlessly, explains Avantika.
The fast-paced nature of fintech has challenged her to think on her feet, collaborate across functions, and take a proactive approach to problem-solving.
The work culture here is dynamic. It constantly pushes you to step out of your comfort zone. Engaging with diverse teams and solving cross-functional challenges has helped me grow both personally and professionally, she adds.
Designing for Experience
A smooth and inclusive checkout experience is critical, as even minor friction can lead to drop-offs and lost revenue. And for Naman Bhatia, our Product Designer, the challenge was clear—redesign the checkout experience to make it faster, more intuitive, and adaptable to different merchant needs.
I worked as a designer on this exercise, focusing on making the best possible checkout experience for our merchants’ customers. The redesign tackled branding inconsistencies, enhanced performance, and simplified the experience for mobile and web users, says Naman
For Naman, the project was more than just a redesign as it gave her a new perspective on how design is approached in this ecosystem. She believes that design is not a one-time deliverable but an evolving process, where collaboration and iteration play a crucial role in refining the user experience.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is the importance of early collaboration with the right people to ensure the best quality work. I also see design as an evolving process rather than a one-time deliverable, as some of the best solutions emerge after analysing the impact of a shipped product, reflects Naman.
At Cashfree Payments, the culture of innovation and problem-solving has allowed her to experiment, refine, and build better user experiences that directly impact business growth.
Fostering Tech Excellence at Scale
With almost three decades of experience in leading large-scale technology programs at companies like Amazon, Salesforce, and Walmart, Reena Andrews, our Director of Technical Program Management, brings a wealth of expertise in building high-performing teams and driving execution at scale.
She plays a critical role in ensuring that engineering teams operate efficiently while staying focused on innovation and long-term growth. Her work spans quarterly roadmap planning, engineering excellence initiatives, and tech compliance engagements—all of which are essential for maintaining high performance across multiple teams. Instead of highlighting a single project, she believes the real impact lies in creating systems and processes that enable teams to succeed at scale.
The association with Cashfree Payments has been rewarding, as it introduced me to fintech and its unique challenges. The initiatives we drive as the TPM team are make-or-break engagements for the organisation. They provide a framework for delivery excellence and ensure we lead in tech, says Reena.
For Reena, success in fintech is about more than just technical problem-solving. It requires fostering a culture of ownership and structured execution. She believes in trusting her intuition, embracing challenges head-on, and making decisions that benefit teams and customers rather than chasing external validation.
And for young women building careers in tech, she emphasises the importance of confidence and resilience.
Be unapologetically yourself. Facing tough discussions without hesitation and trusting your instincts allows you to drive real impact. Growth happens when you challenge the status quo, take risks, and believe in your own power, shares Reena.
At Cashfree Payments, our strength in building industry-leading fintech products comes from the diverse perspectives and expertise of our teams. Each of our Cashiens brings unique qualities across all departments; but what unites us is a common goal to deliver technology first payment experiences to empower businesses.
