“The culture of continuous learning keeps our profession intellectually stimulating, and this is what makes me look forward to every day at Cashfree Payments,” says Kavya, a Software Development Engineer – 3 within our Financial Engineering team.
In our latest blog post featuring the remarkable engineers at Cashfree Payments, we turn the spotlight onto Kavya. Her significant contributions have played a crucial role in shaping the roadmap of financial engineering at Cashfree Payments, and her journey thus far is nothing short of inspiring.
Originally from the vibrant city of Bangalore, Kavya holds a degree in computer science and embarked on her professional journey 5 years ago with a home interior and renovation company before joining Cashfree Payments.
In this blog post, Kavya opens up about her professional graph as she grew from QA Engineer to now an SDET-3 while sharing about her #LifeAtCashfree.
Hi Kavya! Tell us a bit about your role in Financial Engineering and what keeps it exciting.
I work as an SDET-3 in Financial Engineering. Along with my team, I work on the automation of reconciliation for various products, such as PG, Payout, Autocollect, and invoicing.
Working closely with them, my primary objective revolves around crafting solutions and products that effectively streamline manual tasks for our finance team, thereby boosting overall productivity. My responsibilities encompass not only automation but also quality assurance, ensuring the implementation of robust and efficient testing processes.
The exciting thing about Financial Engineering is it is very dynamic. It helps to identify discrepancies, errors or inconsistencies in financial data and to rectify them. Given the dynamic nature of financial markets, financial engineers get a chance to continuously learn and adapt to regulatory changes, market conditions, and new technologies that can be used to help the finance team.
You have also been here for last 3 years, at Cashfree Payments! What do you have to say about your #LifeAtCashfree?
Looking back on my three years at Cashfree Payments, it’s been quite the ride, you know!
Seeing the team grow from three to a 30+ member powerhouse – we have been embracing innovation and scaling.
And let me tell you, the learning experiences I’ve soaked up along the way have contributed both to my professional and personal growth. It’s been a total game-changer for me, where I got work and grew in a dynamic work environment while expanding my knowledge base. Working across different teams has also given me exposure to a whole bunch of products, furthering my understanding of the Indian financial tech scene.
What do you like the most about working in the Engineering team? Can you tell us a bit about the engineering culture here?
I love being part of Cashfree Payments’ Engineering team! We are driven every day to solve complex payment problems for our merchants through our core DNA of engineering excellence.
One of the things that lights me up is seeing our interns grow. We’ve got this fantastic culture that’s all about learning and teaching. The whole engineering experience at Cashfree Payments is so collaborative. It’s not just within our team; it spills over and enriches the whole atmosphere across different teams.
As part of our Individual Development Plan (IDP) within the team, Cashiens are urged to pursue growth not only in their core career path but also to enhance their skills in areas beyond their standard functions within the organization. Additionally, regular case-study discussions, offsites and hackathons – both org-wide and mini hackathons continue to foster collaborative environments amongst teams.
Are there any projects or experiences that are especially close to your heart?
Among the multiple projects I’ve been a part of, one that’s close to my heart is the development of the Mobile Automation Framework from scratch.
Mobile Automation helps faster execution of test cases. It can be run on multiple devices and platforms simultaneously, which saves time compared to manual testing. Frequent regression testing becomes easier and more reliable with automation. Walking this project through its entire journey – from the initial concept to scaling up and ongoing improvements – has been a blend of enjoyment and incredible learning. It’s showcased my technical skills and a testament to how innovation can seriously amp up efficiency.
It’s these kinds of experiences that make the tech at Cashfree Payments so exciting and an exceptional workplace for engineers!
Do you have any tips for engineers who want to join Financial Engineering?
To enhance your understanding and contribute effectively, it’s crucial to stay in regular communication with various stakeholders from different teams.
Familiarise yourself with the inflow and outflow of funds across products, as this knowledge will greatly contribute to the development of an improved product or solution.
Additionally, delve into the intricacies of reconciling transactions with diverse gateways and products daily to gain valuable insights into our operational processes.
