At its core, engineering is a way of thinking – a mindset dedicated to solving the most pressing problems around us. As technology evolves, the role of engineers today has expanded well beyond traditional boundaries. From the devices we use to the ways we connect with others, engineers impact every corner of our lives.

At Cashfree Payments, our engineers chart how fintech empowers businesses and consumers to participate in the digital economy. Their creativity, determination, and expertise are what make us a leader in fintech innovation.

This National Engineer’s Day, we spoke to our team to understand what it means to be an engineer, especially in the dynamic world of fintech.

Defining an engineer in today’s world

For Ramkumar Venkatesan, our Chief Technology Officer, being an engineer is about turning dreams into reality. Sharing his perspective, he says, “Engineers bring dreams to reality with their creativity. Being an engineer is about making the world a better place every single day by building solutions to challenging problems.” He believes engineering is as ubiquitous as space and touches all aspects of our lives, making the problem statements that engineers solve boundless!

This essence of creativity is echoed by Mayank Juneja, an Associate Architect at Cashfree Payments as well. Mayank says, “Being an engineer means channelling my curiosity into solving complex problems and creating delightful products. It’s incredibly rewarding to see a Cashfree Payments page in the wild and realise all the work that went into making it work seamlessly and reliably.”

With the evolution in the impact that engineers make, there’s been a transition in what growth looks like to engineers on their own journey too. Poushali Ghosh, our Technical Solution Engineer, shares a unique perspective on the role of inclusivity in this process. She says, “Being an engineer is about breaking new ground, not just in technology but in creating inclusive spaces. It’s about pushing past challenges and contributing in ways that go beyond code—like fostering empathy and understanding in teams. Engineering isn’t just a job; it’s a journey of continuous growth, driven by support, recognition, and the power of strategic networking.”

This sense of continuous growth is what many engineers resonate with when it comes to keeping pace with the rapid changes of technology. Renu Bisht, our Mobile Engineer, says, “To me, being an engineer means constantly learning and pushing boundaries to create impactful technology. It’s about taking pride in seeing our hard work directly improve the lives of millions of users, as I have experienced while building the Cashfree Payments App.” She believes an engineer thrives in an environment where mentorship, support, and opportunities for growth are abundant.

According to Vasudevan Nagarajan, our Senior Director of SRE, having an agile mindset while charting growth is what being an engineer is all about. He says, “As technology continues to evolve, engineers must be nimble learners with an open mindset to shape the future of the industry. An engineer’s responsibility revolves around adopting tech wisely into various parts of the software development life cycle.”

When it comes to fintech, engineering brings together the worlds of finance and technology to create a digitally empowered future for millions at scale. Raj Nandan Sharma, our Associate Director of Engineering, believes this makes the profession all the more crucial. “Being an engineer in fintech today is about shaping the future of how we interact with money. It’s a role that requires not just technical expertise but also a deep understanding of the impact our work has on people’s lives. With the rise of AI and other technologies, our responsibility is to innovate conscientiously, ensuring that our solutions are not only cutting-edge but also accessible and secure,” he says.

At Cashfree Payments, our engineers are at the heart of our mission, creating meaningful progress in how India transacts online. We are excited to be part of this journey, building innovative solutions that not only meet today’s needs but also pave the way for tomorrow.
