At Cashfree Payments, we’ve always believed that a great payment experience is built on the smallest details. The order in which a customer sees their UPI apps is one of those details — and until now, merchants had no control over it.
We’re introducing UPI App Priority Reordering on Cashfree Payments — a feature that lets merchants configure which UPI apps appear first. It sounds simple, but the impact on conversion isn’t.
Why the Order of UPI Apps Matters
UPI has over 14 billion transactions a month. For most Indian merchants, it’s the dominant payment mode. But which UPI apps get shown — and in what order — has always been decided by default logic, not by you.
That’s a missed opportunity.
If you’ve partnered with Google Pay for a cashback campaign, your customers shouldn’t have to hunt for it. If PhonePe drives higher success rates for your ticket sizes, it should be front and centre. If you’re targeting CRED users for a premium segment, let CRED lead. The UPI app row at your payment screen is prime real estate — it should reflect your business priorities, not a generic default. UPI App Priority Reordering gives you that control.
How It Works
Merchants can now define the order in which UPI apps are displayed when a customer chooses UPI at the payment screen. The feature works across both SDK (Android and iOS) and mobile web (MWeb) flows — with behaviour adapted to each platform.

Two Ways to Configure
1. Via the Merchant Dashboard (Static Configuration)
Head to your Cashfree dashboard, pick your top five preferred apps and choose the order in which you want them to appear. Here’s what’s available today — and we’re continuously expanding this list:
Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, CRED, Amazon Pay, BHIM, Navi, MobiKwik, Airtel Payments Bank, Popclub, Kiwi, Supermoney
2. Via the Create Order API (Dynamic Configuration, Highest Precedence)
For merchants who need order-level control, the Create Order API lets you set UPI app priority dynamically for each transaction. This takes precedence over any dashboard setting.
order_meta: {
“upi_app_priority”: [“psp1”, “psp2”]
}
This flexibility is especially powerful when you want to customise the payment experience based on customer segments, active promotions, or real-time performance data. (API-level configuration starts reflecting from v2026-01-01.)
Precedence order: API configuration → Dashboard configuration → Cashfree’s default priority list of PSPs.
Use Cases: Where This Feature Makes a Real Difference
D2C Brands Running App-Specific Promotions
You’ve partnered with PhonePe for an exclusive cashback campaign this month. With UPI App Priority Reordering, you can push PhonePe to the top for the duration of the promotion — no code changes, just a dashboard update. When the campaign ends, you switch back.
High-Ticket Merchants Optimising for Success Rates
Success rates vary across UPI apps at certain ticket sizes. With API-level priority configuration, you can dynamically surface the app that performs best for your average order value — reducing payment failures without the customer ever knowing.
Fintech and Subscription Platforms Promoting CRED
Platforms targeting premium or credit-conscious users may find that CRED users convert better and carry higher lifetime value. Bringing CRED to the front of the queue for those segments is now a configuration, not a custom engineering project.
Already Live. Already Working.
UPI App Priority Reordering went live in February 2026, and merchants across categories have already started configuring it. The feature is now available via the Cashfree Merchant Dashboard — and as more UPI apps are added to the supported list over time, your ability to fine-tune this experience will only grow.
How to Get Started
Log in to your Cashfree Dashboard and navigate to your payment settings to configure your UPI app priority. For API-level configuration, refer to the developer documentation. If you’re not yet on Cashfree Payments, sign up and bring your payment experience a step closer to conversion excellence.
The payment screen is where intent becomes revenue. Every element of that experience — including the order of your UPI apps — should be working for you.
